Hungarian Civil Organisation Takes Part in the Rehabilitation of Ukrainian Veterans

Hungary’s involvement in supporting veterans and other victims of the Ukrainian war is currently a subject of increasing discussion. As part of efforts conducted at the national level, Hungary is sending aid packages to parts of Ukraine affected by the struggle against Russian aggression, providing summer camp services for the children of soldiers killed in the conflict, while also treating or offering rehabilitation to soldiers injured in anti-terrorist operations.

To this latter end, additional help has arrived from civil arena. In an initiative organised with the help of Siófok entrepreneur Zoltán Horváth, the Hotel Therapia*** in Pécs has offered a large number of places within its facilities toward the physical and mental rehabilitation of those injured in the fighting in Eastern Ukraine. “Given my Ukrainian heritage, I am more concerned about this lamentable conflict and its victims than my fellow Hungarians are. My good relationship with Ukrainian ambassador Lyubov Nepop has even enabled me to take part in aid efforts to those affected, including the organisation of a part of the rehabilitation program.”

Contributing to the rehabilitation of veterans participating in the Pécs program are both conventional medical care and art therapy. The results of their treatment were reported by Hotel Therapia*** physician Prof. Lajos Kollár, ph.D., at the May 30 press conference that concluded the program.

Honoured guests at the event included Dr. Péter Hoppál, Secretary of State for Culture, Dr. István Grezsa, Government Commissioner at the Prime Minister’s Office, Erik Bánki, Chairman of Parliament’s Economic Committee, and Dr. Zsolt Páva, Mayor of Pécs.
